For one day, we will create an alternative reality in Kurvi and see what one of Helsinki’s busiest junctions looks like without cars or buses. Let’s make it happen!
Kallio Block Party is run completely by a volunteer workforce, and provides a diverse festival program including music, arts, and vivid experiences for thousands of people to relish on the streets of Kallio. Put together by the volunteers of the Kallio Initiative, this free all-day event has been organized previously on Fleminginkatu, Vaasankatu, Kolmas linja and Helsinginkatu.
In 2013, the event was fully financed with the help of crowdfunding and was the first event in Finland ever to do so. This year, in addition to the crowdfunding campaign, the festival is receiving support from City of Helsinki Cultural Office. Additional funds are acquired by renting out stalls and locations for food vendors. However, organizing the Party is more challenging this year due to the unique location, whose special needs increase the event’s costs significantly. Funds are needed for traffic control, security, recycling, electricity and sound systems, permits, and sanitation arrangements. Still, not a single person receives any payment for organizing the event.
Volunteering, cooperation and the will to create unique experiences form the core of Kallio Block Party and the whole Kallio Initiative. You can help create the greatest party of the year!
The exquisite KBP campaign products have been designed by illustrators Milla Paloniemi, Frida Lindholm, and Jani Tolin. Additionally, there is a limited amount of unique fabric bags designed and hand-made by individuals with disabilities from the Aula association. All the production materials are ethical and ecological, and special attention has been paid to ensuring the quality of the products. Generally, this year’s event puts special focus on environmental issues and cleanliness.
The goal of the campaign is to collect € 10,000, and the absolute minimum amount required to organize the event is € 5,000. The more we collect, the safer and smoother the event will be, and the more memorable your experience on August 1.
By taking part in the crowdfunding campaign, you can be an important part of organizing the party. If you want to be personally part of planning this special day, contact info@kallioliike.com or take part in the open gatherings announced in the Facebook group: www.facebook.com/kallioliike
NB: Reclaiming your purchases is only possible by collecting the product in person after the campaign has ended, or on the day of the event. The location and time of the collection will be announced at a later date personally by email and via Kallio-liike information channels. Unfortunately, sending the products by mail is not possible.
