Who are Sing&Shine Singers?
In 2005, before moving to the USA, Sanna Valvanne had 150 enthusiastic little singers in her Kameleontti-Chameleon Choirs at the Espoo Music Institute, Finland. These creative children’s choirs were performing on TV, at international festivals, concerts, for the president, and loving every second of it….
A decade later, after living&working around the world and still missing these kids, Sanna decided to get back together with them whenever in Finland. Thus SING&SHINE SINGERS WERE BORN! The group debuted at the Vocal Espoo Festival, in Finland, in June 2014, where they also filmed Sanna’s new choir DVD titled Sing&Shine Repertoire DVD.
The sweet little singers have grown into independent and charming performers, capturing the audiences like shining stars. They are eager to continue with Sanna’s internationally known trademark style and creative choral method “Sing and Shine with Body and Soul”, where vocal expression is combined with movement, improvisation and drama.
Sanna and her singers are now ready to explore new horizons together and
take choral expression to yet another level. The next project is to bring the Sing&Shine Singers on tour to USA, from June 4-15, 2015!!!
Why New York?
Sanna has been living in new York for 4 years and naturally wants to bring her Sing&Shine Singers there. The group will therefor have many rare possibilities for cultural exchanges, performances, and charity projects with local people, which are not usually available for choirs visiting New York. We will be visiting, performing and giving workshops in New York City public schools, elderly people’s institutes, churches, Sanna’s children’s choirs in Queens and Bronx, the Finland Center and Finnish community in New York, and especially spending time with children from underserved communities.
Our Sing&Shine Show will bring to audiences of all ages in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut unforgettable musical experiences with traditional songs from around the world, as well as completely new and creative ways of expressing music as a vocal theater. The tour is also our chance to share Finnish culture and its vibrant choral art, representing especially the open-minded and progressive young people of Finland.
What will the money be used for?
Our budget consists mainly of the travel, meal, and accommodation costs for the 11 days and nights the tour to New York lasts, for the 9 singers representing SIng&Shine SIngers on this tour, our conductor Sanna, and our tour documentary film maker. Also, included are the costs for rehearsal- and performance space rentals, performance outfits, production, printing, marketing, and the equipment and other technical costs for the performances.
Although Sanna has been doing all her work as our artistic and executive director and tour organizer for free, we would like her and the other professionals to be financially compensated for the work they do for this tour.
