It’s a remote rural area which periodically suffers from draughts, floods and hunger. In this first phase of building program we’re leveling the site, planting trees, digging a borehole for a well, building two classrooms, and two teachers’ houses, kitchen and covered dining area and latrines.

Our Malawi Children and Youth Support Association is a grass root organization working directly with a local village community in Malawi. Chitseko Group Village headmen have donated us in September 2015 a plot of land in Muona for the use of the school. Architect Diébédo Francis Kéré originally from Burkina Faso, now in Berlin, has donated drawings for our school building. The funds so far have come from the sales of handicrafts (made by our members), baked goods, second hand sales from flea markets, raffles, membership fees, monthly donations.

We need to intensify our fundraising now. We need more donors!

Come and join our interesting and challenging project!

Children and villagers are waiting for their school.

Our overall goal is to build a comprehensive school (8 grades) and housing for eight teachers. For the following three years we aim to build two more classes and teacher’s houses each year.

What inspires us?

Malawi Children and Youth Support Association is a non-profit organization. It enables us to “do good”, “to change the world a little bit better”. We’re a non-hierarchical organization and work from grass root level here to grass root level in Africa, from person to person. As volunteers we don’t get paid, there’s no travel, administrative or personnel costs.

We’re driven by the idea that the most precious gift one can give to others is to go give them education regardless of poverty, gender or locality.

We’re also inspired by the thought that education is one of the best ways to eliminate poverty. Research confirms this. Education secures development of democratic and peaceful society. Educated people can learn to help themselves. In their turn Malawians will be able to help others less fortunate and so ‘doing good’ will continue.

Why Malawi’s children?

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. Malawi is a peaceful country, which makes possible to work together with the local people. In addition we’ve had personal contacts in Malawi for a very long time. These contacts have secured important ties with local people.

Almost half of the Malawi’s population is under 14 years of age. Malawi has a school system, but it doesn’t cover the whole country. Poverty is crushing and manifests in shortage of everything. Classes can be up to 100 pupils. Not enough school buildings, the children can sit on bare mud floors crammed next to each other, bodies touching, trying to take notes. There’s total lack of pencils, pens, notebooks, books, school meals. Compulsory school uniforms are expensive. All this leaves poor children without schooling. The failings of government education system affect the poor most.

Join us and become a donor and/or an activist helping us to give a good education to these village children!

This is an absorbing and enlightening project for us all.

Look at our products! They open up literally new worlds for us to explore!

When helping these village children to have their school, you’ll begin to see your own life and circumstances in a different way and from a different perspective.

Support our school building program – become a donor – participate in our crowd funding campaign! We’re launching this crowd funding campaign to be able to carry through our plans to build a comprehensive school (8 grades), teachers’ housing, school kitchen, latrines and planting of trees on the school land in rural Malawi

We use Mesenaatti.me, a Finnish crowd funding firm for our campaign.

As an exchange for your donation you’ll get an interesting choice of gifts to keep for yourself or to give as a present to your friend, colleague, partner/husband /wife, beloved, anyone.

Examine the alternative gifts and choose the one most suited to your needs.

To spur you into action we’ve organized a lottery firstly for those who have donated money by the following dates, 11 April, 25 April and 9 May. Good luck for each draw!
